Why you aren’t sticking to your goals
Sometimes, sticking to your goals can be challenging. It’s easy to follow a plan at the start, but when life gets tough, that's when commitment matters most. I believe that one of the best ways to stay on track is to clearly define the "why" behind your intentions. Let me explain further...
Weight loss, for example, is a great and achievable goal. But a general statement like that doesn’t always give us the fuel to stick with it.
Here’s an approach I learned from some incredible mentors. I've adapted it into what I like to call the #BetterVersion of yourself. It’s all about defining your ideal self as you set out to achieve your goals. This requires digging deep, focusing on the objective, and discovering the true reason behind it.
Instead of saying, “I want to get fit to be more confident,” go a little deeper. I’ll use my own example:
For instance: I want to improve my fitness to boost my health and confidence so that, when I walk into a room, I feel unwavering pride in my self-identity.
See the difference? The key is in the emotional component of the “why.” There’s no shame in wanting to better yourself. Loving yourself is essential, but that doesn’t mean settling for less than you’re capable of.
Let’s try this #BetterYou experiment together:
I want to (your goal) so that, when (the experience that drives your desire for change), I feel (your ideal self in that situation).
Defining your goal this way is a powerful step in any journey of transformation. The best part is that it doesn't have to be about fitness. This can apply to any change you’re striving for. It’s all about framing your perspective.
When things get tough, you can lean on more than just the image of a “six-pack” to keep you going. These deep-rooted "whys" help you push forward. This perspective is a lifestyle, revealing more of who you are and who you can become. Self-improvement is an uphill climb that keeps you coming back for more. Each peak you reach is an investment in yourself, with results that last. And the beauty of this journey? There’s always another summit waiting, as long as you believe in your own potential.
Stop just moving through life. Choose to truly live it. Time is the one commodity we can't earn more of, so stop wasting it on things that don’t fuel you.
With utmost motivation, respect, and gratitude,
